Sacramento County is a county of the U.S. state of California. The county seat is the city of Sacramento, the state capital. As of 2000 the population was 1,223,499.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 1,223,499 people, 453,602 households, and 297,562 families residing in the county. The population density was 489/km² (1,267/mi²). There were 474,814 housing units at an average density of 190/km² (492/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 64.02% White, 9.96% Black or African American, 1.09% Native American, 11.03% Asian, 0.59% Pacific Islander, 7.48% from other races, and 5.84% from two or more races. 16.01% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
